Picture of the Times?

This was forwarded to me with the question posted below. I didn't write this, so these are not necessarily my sentiments.

First Lady Michelle Obama showed up Thursday as a surprise and welcome volunteer at Miriam's Kitchen, a soup kitchen for homeless poor people not far from the White House.
She brought with her some food donated by White House staff.
The first lady served up mushroom risotto and broccoli to a long line of homeless men and women during part of her
If this unidentified meal recipient is too poor to buy his own food, how does he afford a cellphone?
And if he is homeless, where do they send the cellphone bills?

Maybe he has a post office box?

Seriously, with the number of evictions and foreclosures these days, it's not unfathomable that a person might be homeless but yet have a cell phone -- even one with a camera. But the picture DOES raise questions, doesn't it?

It might be a track phone or one that has pre-paid minutes. Maybe this person is looking for a job and needs to receive calls. It raises questions but positive ones for me. I'm hoping that he finds work and gets a better life.

It's hard for people to understand that "homeless" is not the same as "bum." Hurricanes, wildfires annually create homelessness, just as the current economy.

I agree with all three of you. The picture and commentary sent to me struck me as odd at first, but, as mentioned at the bottom of my post, it is not unfathomable in this economy.

And, yes, Monkey! You are right: there are many reasons people are without homes.
